The central burial facility is unexcavated. Wooden objects and other material have been recovered from the ditch.
Two views on the occupant
Archaeological view
An approximately 115m keyhole-shaped mound at Higaida, Sakurai. Investigated material includes groups indicating both the early and late 3rd century, so its construction date remains unsettled. The central burial facility is unexcavated.
Imperial Household Agency view
This is not an Imperial Household Agency mausoleum. It was added to the National Historic Site Makimuku Kofun Group (Makimuku Ishizuka and Hokenoyama, designated 2006) together with Makimuku Yazuka by a notification of 17 February 2026.
