Overview
230m mound in Yanagimoto, Tenri City. A major member of the Yamato kofun group, paired with Higashitonozuka.Paired with the smaller Higashitonozuka Kofun to its east, from which its name ("West Mausoleum Mound") derives. Although the IHA designates this as the mausoleum of Empress Tashirakahime (consort of Emperor Keitai), the archaeological date (early 4th century) is roughly two centuries too early.
Finds & research
No excavation permitted under IHA mausoleum regulations. Internal structure and grave goods remain unknown. Exterior viewable from public paths.
