224m mound in Sakurai City. National historic site, famous for its unusually large haniwa cylinders.National historic site. The oversized haniwa cylinders are archaeologically significant.
Surveys by Sakurai City Board of Education (national historic site designated 1939). Key finds from the vertical-shaft stone chamber in the rear circle: giant cylindrical haniwa up to 1.1m tall (among Japan's largest, placed at the rear-circle summit); morning-glory haniwa; a sarcophagus; bronze mirrors; swords; jewels. Preserved and displayed at the Kashihara Archaeological Research Institute Museum and the Sakurai City Buried Cultural Property Center.
