224 burial mounds on the slopes of Mt. Takayasu in Yao City. Known as "Takayasu Chizuka." National historic site. Once numbering far more, many were lost to urbanisation. Gold and silver earrings with Korean-style affinities indicate continental-connected occupants, making this site key to studying late Kofun-period society in the Kawachi region.
Excavations by Yao City Board of Education in several clusters. Horizontal stone chambers (single- and double-aisle types) have yielded gold earrings, silver earrings, magatama, tubular beads, iron weapons, horse gear (bits and stirrups), Sue ware, and Haji ware. The gold and silver finds — reflecting continental burial customs — are of particular note.
Walking trails are maintained around Kintetsu Osaka Line "Takayasuyama" station. Combining a visit with the Mt. Takayasu hiking course is popular.
