The IHA classifies this as a round-mound mausoleum designated for Prince Shiki, posthumously titled Emperor Kasuganomiya. Nara Prefecture lists a 40 m circular mound; its date, burial facility, and finds remain uncertain in the cited public sources.
Imperial Household Agency view
Managed by the IHA as the Tahara-no-Nishi Mausoleum of the posthumously titled Emperor Kasuganomiya (Prince Shiki, son of Emperor Tenji, father of Emperor Konin, and celebrated Man'yoshu poet). Nara Prefecture lists a circular mound 40 m in diameter, with a monument bearing his Man'yoshu poem at the entrance; Emperor Konin's Tahara-no-Higashi Mausoleum lies about 2km east.
