A terminal-period tomb with stone paving and drainage around the mound. It is reconstructed as hexagonal, but no occupant attribution is established.
Finds & research
Finds include dry-lacquer coffin fragments, gilt-bronze six-petalled fittings, and human remains. Looting is thought to have occurred in the medieval period.
Two views on the occupant
Archaeological view
A polygonal mound at Mayumi, Asuka, about 24m on the diagonal and 4.5m high. Built in the latter to final 7th century, it has a side-entry chamber of dressed tuff whose interior was plastered.
Imperial Household Agency view
This is not an IHA mausoleum. It was designated a National Historic Site on 16 January 1982. The occupant is unknown.
