Keyhole mound (110m) in Isonokami-cho, Tenri City. Part of the Isonokami-Toyoda Kofun Group on the hills along the Furu River. Adjacent and closely related to Isonokami-Otsuka (id:276) and Bessho-Otsuka, it is among the largest Late Kofun period mounds in Nara Prefecture and is considered by some the tomb of a Mononobe chieftain. Not a designated Historic Site, but a notable late mound with a horizontal stone chamber.

Archaeological view
Keyhole mound 110m long with a rear-circle diameter of ~68m. Built in the latter half of the Late Kofun period (late 6th century). A two-sided horizontal stone chamber opens to the south in the rear circle, with fragments of coffin stone found inside. The name "Uwanari" (second wife) is said to derive from likening the neighboring Isonokami-Otsuka to the "first wife." Closely related in scale, chamber, and date to Isonokami-Otsuka (id:276) and Bessho-Otsuka, it is regarded as a leading mound of the Isonokami-Toyoda group and, by some, the tomb of a Mononobe chieftain. Field notes
On the hills of Isonokami-cho, Tenri City; can be toured together with Isonokami-Otsuka (id:276) and Bessho-Otsuka. Located east of Isonokami Shrine. Not IHA-managed nor a designated Historic Site, so open to excavation. Accessible by bus/on foot from Tenri Station (Kintetsu/JR).
