A round mound 32.5m across (33m in the Agency for Cultural Affairs account) and 3.8m high. It stands about 40m beyond the outer moat on the north-east side of the rear circle of Kamiishizu Misanzai Kofun (the Mausoleum of Emperor Richu), and from this position it is thought to be related to that mound. Built in the first half of the 5th century, it is now protected beneath additional covering soil. It is part of the National Historic Site Mozu Kofun Group and a constituent monument of the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group World Heritage Site, inscribed in 2019.
Finds & research
Cylindrical haniwa have been recovered from the mound, and a koto-bridge-shaped stone object is reported among the grave goods. Excavation found no clear trace of a moat, so the mound may have had no boundary feature. It has since been capped with fill for protection.
