85.8m double-circle mound in Kanan Town. Japan's only double-round burial mound. National historic site.
Excavations around the 2016 National Historic Site designation by Kanan Town Board of Education. Each mound (south and north) contains a double-aisle horizontal stone chamber (south chamber: 6.4m long × 2.4m wide × 2.8m high), each holding a house-shaped stone coffin quarried from Mt. Nijo tuff — a stone widely used for late Kofun-period coffins in Kinai. The Kanan Town History Museum displays finds and explanatory exhibits.
Japan's only double-round mound — an exceptionally rare tomb type.
