Archaeological view
A pre-mausoleum rise called Maruyama is documented, but its original form, size, date, burial facility, and finds are not established in the public evidence. The traditional designation is kept separate from the archaeological assessment.
Imperial Household Agency view
Managed by the IHA as the Uji Tomb of Prince Uji-no-Wakiiratsuko. Uji City reports that a rise called Maruyama existed before the mausoleum was built, but construction greatly altered it and its original form is difficult to reconstruct. The present keyhole outline is therefore not treated as the original mound form or size.
