A dense field of chambered tombs at the foot of the hills in Shigo, Himeji. A walking path lets you peer into one open chamber after another; a local "kofun festival" is held each June.

Archaeological view
A late-to-terminal cluster of 13 mounds, all with corridor-type chambers. Mound 6, the "Meoto-zuka," holds twin chambers in one mound; Mound 10's exposed 10.86m chamber is nicknamed the "Ishibutai of Himeji." Finds include a Sue-ware cup bearing a cat's paw print.
