Overview
A square mound adjoining the outer embankment west of Konda Gobyoyama Kofun, the Emperor Ojin mausoleum, with its axis parallel to the embankment. It measures 54m north-south by 57m east-west, stands 7m high and has two tiers. Ariyama Kofun once stood immediately to the north on the same axis, and the two shared the northern part of the moat. The moat is preserved underground. It is dated to the middle phase of the Middle Kofun period. Part of the National Historic Site Furuichi Kofun Group, it is a constituent monument of the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group World Heritage Site, inscribed in 2019.
Finds & research
Excavation recovered cylindrical haniwa set edge to edge along the first terrace. A moat rings the mound; its northern arm was once shared with the neighbouring Ariyama Kofun (a 45m square mound, no longer extant). The moat is preserved underground. The burial facility has not been confirmed, but since a cache at Ariyama held more than 2,700 iron objects, Higashiyama may contain something comparable.

A square mound 54m north–south and 57m east–west, 7m high and built in two tiers, occupant unknown, dated to the middle of the Middle Kofun period (first half of the 5th century). It stands against the outer embankment on the west of Konda Gobyoyama Kofun (the Emperor Ojin mausoleum), its axis parallel to that embankment, and its northern moat was once shared with Ariyama Kofun (a 45m square mound, no longer extant). Excavation recovered cylindrical haniwa set edge to edge along the first terrace. Mid-sized for a square mound, it appears to rank relatively high among the accessory burials.
