Overview
A square mound 45m on a side and 9.4m high, built about 180m south-east of the rear circle of Hakayama Kofun. Its position has led to the view that it was related to Hakayama. The surrounding moat is preserved underground. Built in the late 5th century, it is administered by the Imperial Household Agency as a satellite of the Emperor Ojin mausoleum and is a constituent monument of the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group World Heritage Site, inscribed in 2019.
Finds & research
A moat rings the mound and is preserved underground. Cylindrical and figural haniwa have been recovered along with Sue ware. As the mound is administered by the IHA as a satellite tomb, its burial facility and grave goods are uninvestigated.
Two views on the occupant
Archaeological view
A square mound 45m long and 9.4m high, occupant unknown, dated to the late Middle Kofun period (second half of the 5th century). It stands about 180m south-east of the rear circle of Hakayama Kofun; one view holds that it is related to Hakayama. A moat rings the mound, preserved underground; cylindrical and figural haniwa and Sue ware have been recovered.
Imperial Household Agency view
Managed by the Imperial Household Agency as "Satellite Tomb No. Ha" of the Mausoleum of Emperor Ojin; public entry onto the mound is not permitted. Administratively it is a satellite of the Ojin mausoleum, but archaeologically it is regarded as an accessory mound of the neighboring Hakayama Kofun. A constituent monument of the Mozu-Furuichi World Heritage property.
