Perhaps the only kofun on the Shirahama coast, in the grounds of Kumano-Sansho Shrine by the famous beach. Its name — "fire rain" — recalls a legend of ogres whose overnight build was stopped by a rain of fire. An easy add to any beach trip.

A small round mound ~8m across of the early 7th century with an open corridor chamber — called the representative kofun of the Kinan region, a precious survivor where mounds are scarce.
