Overview

A ~110m keyhole mound in Ibaraki City — Osaka Prefectural Historic Site. Early 4th century. Numerous bronze mirrors (including triangular-rim type) attest to ties with the Yamato polity. An important early kofun of northern Settsu and key to understanding the ancient political history of the Yodo River basin.

Finds & research

Multiple bronze mirrors excavated including triangular-rim, picture-band, and variant four-spirit mirrors. A wooden coffin is presumed to have been placed in the vertical pit stone chamber. Stone paving and haniwa confirmed. The Ibaraki City Cultural Property Museum displays replicas of the excavated mirrors.

Archaeological view
A ~110m keyhole mound in Muroyama, Ibaraki City — dated to the early 4th century. Three-tiered construction with stone paving and vertical pit stone chamber. A large number of bronze mirrors were excavated, including Triangular-rimmed神獣 mirrors, making it one of the nation's most mirror-rich early kofun. This attests to close ties with the Yamato kingdom. A representative early keyhole mound of the Settsu region (northern Osaka).

Field notes

About 25 min walk from Hankyu Kyoto Line "Ibaraki-shi" Station, or 20 min from "Sojiji" Station. The mound sits on a hilltop; mountain path required. Can be combined with Imashiroduka (id:60) and Ota Chausuyama (id:61) on a "Takatsuki–Ibaraki kofun tour." Related materials at the Ibaraki City Cultural Property Museum.
